NIMJ program on Denedo
On 22 September 2009 from noon through 1330, NIMJ will host a panel discussion on United States v. Denedo, 129 S. Ct. 2213 (2009), at the American University’s Washington College of Law. The panelists will be Yale Law Professor Gene Fidell — one of Denedo’s counsel — Pratik Shah of the S.G.’s office — who argued the case for the United States — and moi. (Which one of these is not like the others? I have no idea how I got invited to play on this panel, but I’m glad I did.) Professor Stephen Vladeck of the Washington College of Law will be the moderator. And as if that’s not enough, there will be free chow.
Here’s a link to a flyer for the program, including RSVP information.

I think someone needs to look up the word humble in the dictionary. Go ahead and give yourself a big pat on the back and get over yourself…
Anyone know if and when the DuBay hearing in Denedo will be held? I think the Supreme Court and CAAF should have to pay for it.
I think Denedo is an interesting case and is the next step of evolving MJ law at SCOTUS — but who shows up to watch these panels at AU?
Well, for free chow . . .
I think Pie is a good candidate for selective unmasking.
Great call PP, let’s post his photo under the heading “enemy of the blog.” Who should we go after next?
Who says selective unmasking = “going after” someone?
I think anon 1406′s point is that there was something McCarthy-like about your suggestion to selectively unmask Pie. He made a sarcastic but fairly innocuous comment. What if someone else thinks your comment merits an unmasking?
There’ll be no unmasking of Mr./Ms. Pie (not that I would even know how to if I wanted, which I don’t).
Pie is a pseudonym? I assumed it was Felix Pie, or Pie Traynor.
I kind of assumed that “pie” was just being funny, but it just didn’t translate well on paper….I’m actually curious about who would use the call sign “Peter Pan.”…In my expert opinion that deserves an unmasking.
I prefer apple pie. And I am not being funny.
Can someone tell me whether this be available online through a podcast? I’m stationed in Japan with the Navy so I won’t be able to make it–WCL is my alma mater and the panel sounds great.
They could do what the judge in NY just did in a case.http://abovethelaw.com/2009/08/talking_privacy_with_dan_solov.php
So, bye, bye, Miss American Pie.
In Germany, they first came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Megan, WCL posts all events like this to their website, so you’ll be able to watch it.
Former summer funner now stationed in Japan (probably on her second tour) is commenting on CAAFlog, now I feel old.
Was there an invite to anyone from Code 46 that actually worked this case prior to the SG accepting it?
