Still more on Army recruiting numbers

This series of posts started with my observation that the increase in the quality of recruits throughout DOD — and the decrease in the number of recruits with prior serious misconduct — is likely to lead to decreases in discipline rates.

As a follow-on to that post, I noted that this Slate post contended that the Army’s recruiting numbers weren’t actually up, but rather that the Army’s recruiting goal had been lowered by 15,000, making it easier for the Army to exceed its goal.  Now the author of that Slate post has posted this Slate post providing additional Army recruiting/retention numbers and concluding that the Army’s actual end strength really has increased.

We now return to our regular military justice programing.

And recruiting will continue to be good so long as the economy remains bad and there is less attention to the deaths in Iraq/Afghanistan.
I have lots of emails and calls from people who a year ago would have zero trouble getting a waiver and into the military. Now any ding, no matter how small, is keeping people out.
