Marine judge advocate killed in Afghanistan

One of the brave Americans killed in the helicopter crashes in Afghanistan on Monday was Mike Weston — a DEA agent and former active duty Marine judge advocate.

We’ve heard news that because he was serving as a DEA agent in Afghanistan, he is ineligible for burial at Arlington National Cemetery.  If true, whoever has the power to do so should quickly grant whatever waivers are necessary to allow this hero to rest with his fellow patriots at Arlington.

Here is an update on the memorial service for Michael Weston:

The service will be held on 6OCT09, beginning at 1300, at Little Hall, Marine Corps Base Quantico. For Marines in uniform, the family is requesting Blue Dress “B.”

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Drug Enforcement Administration Survivors Benefit Fund.

    Should that read 6 Nov?

  3. Patrick Hannon says:

Mike Weston was an old friend of my family. Is there a notice/release that confirms the time/date of the memorial service? Are civilians allowed to attend if it is at Quantico? Sorry for the odd questions, but this is the only info I’ve found on a service and we aren’t a military family. Thanks for your time.

Did Mike Weston go by Cody?

    Ken:

Not Cody. Cody is (I believe) with Perkins Coie in Portland.

Mr. Hannon – The memorial service Mike will be next Friday, the 6th, at 1pm in the Little Hall Auditorium, MCB Quantico Mainside. It is our understanding that non-military will be able to get onto base with a drivers license.

LtCol Martin – This was Mike not Cody Weston. Both Cody and Mike served at CPEN at the same time making this a question for many.

    Memorial Service

On behalf of the Office of Global Enforcement, the Washington Division has made the following arrangements to honor Special Agent Michael E. Weston who gave his life in the line of duty to the Drug Enforcement Administration on October 26, 2009.

In accordance with the wishes of SA Weston’s family, a memorial service has been planned for SA Michael E. Weston.  Details for all related events are as follows:

    Memorial Service – Friday, November 6, 2009:

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 6, 2009, at Little Hall on Quantico Marine Base.  Parking next to Little Hall will be reserved for immediate family members, select friends and dignitaries.  All others may park at one of the following locations: Lejeune Hall, Officers’ Club or the Chapel.  Shuttle buses will transport attendees to Little Hall for the Memorial Service.  (A map of Quantico Marine Base is attached.)  Maximum occupancy of all government vehicles is requested.  Please allow ample time for parking and use of shuttle services where available.

NOTE: A procession of vehicles transporting SA Weston’s family members will travel in front of DEA Headquarters at approximately 11:15 am in route to the Memorial Service.  All DEA Headquarters personnel not attending the Memorial Service are highly encouraged to form a line on the sidewalk along Army-Navy as a tribute to SA Weston.

Special Agent Weston will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The Washington Division extends its appreciation to the many DEA divisions, components and personnel assisting in the events honoring SA Michael, in particular the Office of Global Enforcement and the Kabul Country Office; as well as special appreciation to members of the United States Military assisting DEA in this effort.
