Here’s a link to a Time magazine article called, “A Brief History of the Court-Martial.”

Wow… This is what qualifies as writing and journalism? The article was fluff, written in a style that would make many fifth graders blush. The rightly maligned Newsweek article was better than this crap.

I would like the last 5 minutes of my life back.

  2. John O'Connor says:

    What SDC said.

  3. Late Bloomer says:

When I saw the link, I presumed that Time would unearth a parade of horribles. Reminding myself that optimism is a virtue, I read the piece…darn.

  4. Phil Angeli says:

The article links to another piece, “How the Military Will Try Nidal Hasan,” by Hilary Hylton. Ms. Hylton inaccurately refers to Art. 12 when she’s clearly trying to discuss Art. 31(b). Wonder how much time she spent researching this.

  5. Cossio says:

About as much time as the Supreme Court when athouring Denedo

  6. Cossio says:

    * Authoring (sic)

  7. Anonymous says:

That’s not the proper use of [sic].

  8. Comrade Cossio says:

    I know :) whahahaha

  9. Christopher Mathews says:

SDC, most news magazine articles are written for readers functioning at fourth- or fifth-grade level reading comprehension. And we’re not talking fifth graders in their school’s “gifted and talented” program.

At least this one didn’t drag out the old F. Lee Bailey quote.

  10. Comrade Cossio says:

Good Point, yes that could be one factor on why the Newspaper industry is going bankrupt.

Bailey….I didn’t remember who he was, but just on the context alone I figured he had the “I’d rather be tried in a court-martial” quote.

I looked it up, and I see people misquote him. He said if he were guilty he’d rather be tried in a Civilian court, and if he were innocent a Court-Martial.

  11. Southern Defense Counsel says:

Touche, judge Matthews. Like Late Bloomer I keep hoping for decent journalism and coming up short. I suppose I will have to learn to survive in the world of the lowest common denominator. :)
