Actually the Harmon comment was in reference to the AF Law Review Biography. The Army JAG labled any Army JAG going into the Newly Created AF as "traitors".

Thanks for the info on US v. Reynolds....an interesting read. Harmon was an interesting guy, Mayor of Champaign IL. at 27, UIC alum, ruthless and against paying JAGs professional pay. My kind of dictato---I mean guy.

Anon 0901 - Good quote from Mitchell's DC's Closing - but Charlie Dunlap was not convicted by a GCM for insubordination.

For the non-AF readers, Cossio's reference to Reginald C. Harmon, refers to the AF's 1st TJAG, made infamous by his less-than-candid Affidavit in U.S. v. Reynolds, 345 U.S. 1 (1953). Whether it was perjurious, was a closer question, see 424 F.3d 384 (3rd Cir. 2005).

USAAC, I've long maintained that the Air Force erred when it allowed the Army to become a separate branch of the service in 1947.

Isn't "strong-willed, intelligent, outspoken/well-spoken proponent of airpower" a bit of an oxymoron in this day and age of modern, asymmetric warfare warfare? Time for the USAF to come home to the US Army and embrace combined arms!

Apparently, the specter of a strong-willed, intelligent, outspoken/well-spoken proponent of airpower as TJAG was more than SECAF and the Chief could stand. Thus, Maj Gen Dunlap was skipped over.

Wasn't the last SJA to the MC Commandant a 1-star? If he was the only 1-star JAG in the Marine Corps, then a colonel would have to jump grades to the new SJA rank.

The jump from 1-star to 3-star recently occurred in the Army JAG Corps also.

JWS,

The Air Force JAG Corps has only one Maj Gen billet, the Deputy Judge Advocate General (DJAG). Once the decision was made that the AF DJAG was not going to be nominated as the TJAG, someone (in this case Brig Gen Harding) would have to skip a grade to become TJAG.
