7 disciplined so far under pregnancy ban

Stars and Stripes reported today here that four soldiers have been disciplined so far under Multi-National Division–North’s order forbidding “becoming pregnant, or impregnating a Soldier, while assigned to the Task Force Marne AOR, resulting in the redeployment of the pregnant Soldier.”  Four pregnant soldiers have received local reprimand letters.  Two male soldiers have also received local reprimand letters while a third male soldier received ”a permanent written reprimand because he was a married noncommissioned officer who impregnated a subordinate who is not his wife.”  NPR reported this morning that the fourth pregnant soldier declined to identify the father.

BTW, as I also learned on NPR this morning, Major General Cucolo’s most recent assignment was as the Army’s Chief of Public Affairs.

    What does “redeployment” mean?

  2. Some Army Guy says:

    “Redeployed” means sent home.

A unit deploys to an AO and then redeploys home when the operation is complete.

I’m not sure why that nomenclature exists, but it does.

  3. Former Chief of Public Affairs? Well that changes things. I had thought that this might be a case of a policy coming from a politically-tone deaf general, somebody who just didn’t appreciate the congressional/press/public response that it would inevitably generate. Based upon his past position though, MG Cucolo was arguable the person in the Army that should have been the best able to predict the reaction to this order.

I think we may have to give the SJA involved more of a pass on this one. Arguing about how an order will be perceived with the guy that was most recently the Army’s Chief of Public Affairs is not a winning proposition.

In my view, the actual punishments awarded at NJP reinforce the notion that the order was simply a legamoron.

”a permanent written reprimand because he was a married non commissioned officer who impregnated a subordinate who is not his wife.”

Here’s the crux of the problem I have with MG Cuckoo’s order:

MG Cuckoo had the best intentions, pregnancy while deployed is an epidemic, it affects Good Order and Discipline, moral, and crushes unit readiness and cohesion.

The problem is there were other ways to go about it. Like enforcing the laws WE ALREADY HAVE.

The above case is an example. Why would a Commander give a reprimand under this stupid order instead of NJP for Adultery. They should have (1) Been charged with Adultery and (2) Given NJP, not a flimsy reprimand. and maybe a possible failure to maintain a professional relationship.

    P.S.

Quit using “legamoron”, like the word “fetch” its never going to catch on and you sound like a megamoron.

Nice work Cossio, you’re definitely in a position to criticize word choice and grammar. By the way, I saw a black kettle for you to criticize.

Anybody out there have a redacted copy of the letters of reprimand? I would love to see the language used in the LORs.

  9. DB Cooper says:

Draft LOR: “I find your impregnation disgraceful. As you willfully and knowingly permitted your male partner’s sperm cells to permeate and fertilize your eggs, you brought great shame upon the uniform. As the zygote continued to grow and manifest the miracle of life, you deliberately committed an wanton act of gross dishonor and insubordination.”

    OK that’s pretty funny.

General Odierno made statements to the press today in Baghdad that there will be a new policy in place from his level on 01 January. Should be interesting to see what the new policy will be.

Appears to be no more…the pregnancy policy? Aborted!

Why does WordPress allow me to uprate DB Cooper’s comment only once?

    It hardly seems fair.

Is there a difference between Grammar/Spelling/Typos done on accident and word usage on purpose?

By the way, I found a dope who is attuned to your method of logic, he’s in your bathroom, go by the sink and look straight ahead (into the mirror), you can’t miss him.

Judge, it’s the same for all of us, it’s by IP address, it prevents (conversely) someone to give a bunch of down ratings.

If you really feel up to it you can thumbs up again at another work station.

And Cossio, having the apparent choice between the I’m rubber your glue comeback or the I’m not the dummy, you’re the dummy comeback, chooses the latter, setting off an eternal debate among 9-year-olds about which is the more effective comeback.

Anon, doesn’t this debate perk your interests?

The miracle of life I mean. Take for the fact that out of 500 Million Sperm you were the fastest, getting into your Mother’s egg and decades latter you bless me with your inane comments whilst I’m playing Castlevania 4 on my PC. Awesome.

The sophomoric exchanges are preposterous and detract from the quality of the blog. While some people are actually focused on commenting on issues of import, others are just hurling childish insults…come on, men — grow up. Seriously.
