Peter R. Grande, the Chief of Staff of the United States Disciplinary Barracks, has authored Images of America:  United States Disciplinary Barracks, available from bn.com for $18.  While primarily a collection of photographs, it includes informative captions as well as a short (less than two pages) introductory essay about the USDB’s origins.

   oh man I wish I had time for all these prisoner grievances but I’m too busy writing this book of questionable importance!

   I went ahead and bought the book. When I was in the Reserves, one of our unit members worked at the USDB and arranged for a tour. It is a fascinating place with and equally interesting history. I look forward to getting it.
