Here is a San Diego Union Tribune report on charges against a Navy SEAL from San Diego that is charged with smuggling weapons into the US from Iraq and attempting to sell them.  I am guessing that because the SEAL allegedly conspired with civilians, the case against the Petty Officer is being brought in US District Court.  See 18 USC 3261(d)(2).  Here is the article’s summary of the case:

Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas Bickle, 33, had been released on $150,000 bond Friday by order of a San Diego judge. After he was indicted Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy, dealing firearms without a license, possession of a machine gun, distribution of explosives and other charges, prosecutors argued that he should be taken back into custody.

Bickle is accused of conspiring to sell as many as 100 guns smuggled home from deployments to Iraq. The charges carry a maximum punishment well in excess of 10 years in prison, attorneys said.

The judge released SO1 Bickle on the condition that he remain confined to base and subject to electronic monitoring.

I bet you guess wrong. Most commands flinch at a SEAL case and I bet the RLSO never had a snowball’s chance in San Diego of prosecuting that case irrespective of civilian co-defendants

Oh, Anon 6:29- I don’t know that is true about San Diego. If framed as “rogue Seal selling weapons to the drug cartels”. Folks here might not be so impressed.
