Thanks to “JAG506” for alerting us to the new Draft Report of the Independent Review Panel of Judge Advocate Requirements of the Department of the Navy, here.  The Panel’s other documents are now collected on a slightly more user-friendly Google page, here.  A brief read of the Conclusion and  “Reviewof Directives” pages of the Draft Report read like a pep rally for the Navy-Marine Corps Judge Advocate community.  Maybe the rest of the Draft Report is chock-full-of proposed improvements and issues.  It is a Draft for discussion so I’d expect some revision.

Some interesting recent submissions include supplemental comments from the SJA to the Commandant, here, that include some documents that we previously noted had been deleted from the 506 Panel’s website, see prior post here.  The SJA’s submission includes the 1995 analysis of authorities relating to appointment of Marine Corps’ judge advocates as the Judge Advocate General of the Navy.

The Panel’s letters to the HASC and SASC also request an extension to Feb. 15, 2011 to file a report, see here.

Finally, is another Fed. Reg. notice of the Panel’s presumably final public meeting:

The meeting will be held on Friday, January 7th, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

ADDRESSES: The meeting will be held at the Residence Inn Arlington Pentagon City, 550 Army Navy Drive, Arlington, VA 22202.

“No Man” – “Maybe the rest of the Draft Report is chock-full-of proposed improvements and issues.” Your naivete is refreshing….
