The proceedings related to the alleged hazing and suicide of a Marine in Afghanistan continue to make news. San Jose Mercury News coverage here.

As we were all hunkering down on the East Coast as Hurricane Irene blew through, an Army Captain apparently took the opportunity to shoot and kill 4 (including his wife and an 8-year boy) and wound 2 cops before taking his own life. I can’t imagine that mental illness isn’t somehow an issue in this story from the Philadelphia Inquirer, here, which reports the Captain may have just returned from one of several deployments in his career to the CENTCOM AOR.

I don’t think mental illness was an issue. Other articles state: “The bodies of Egland’s ex-wife, 36-year-old Carrie England, her boyfriend 40-year-old Scott T. Allred and his young 7-year-old son were found inside a home there.” It’s starnge to note how your article calls her his wife and the boyfriend “a male acquaintance.”

why would that rule out mental illness as an issue?
