I was perusing the Appendices of the Manual for Courts-Martial the other day, because I have oh so much free time.  And it occurred to me that five accused have the distinction of having their cases forever memorialized in the MCM forms appendices (Apps. 4, 5, 18, 19, and 20).  Anyone ever figured out whether these are real cases and/or how these names were picked as the shining examples of how to do things?

I should have put this amusing sidenote in the original post, but I noted that the 2008 Manual had a revised version of App. 4 (Charge Sheet) and 5 (IO Report).  The drafters kept the names the same, updated the forms, and corrected the misspelling of the accused’s name in Block 1 of the Charge Sheet–not exactly the shining example.
