Another GO that set aside a sexual assault conviction has promotion held up, her name is LTG Susan Helms, USAF, see Yahoo News coverage here. Nice article at Air Force Times, here, on the case and CA clemency power.  H/t Lieber.

More coverage of the Marine Corps staff sergeant that alleged sexual assault and was convicted of attempted adultery and a false official statement relating to her alleged attempt to cover-up the attempted adultery.  Coverage of her sentencing from the LA Times here

From local news reports of another Lackland MTI case:

Staff Sgt. Hudson was found guilty of having an adulterous and unprofessional relationship that began in basic training, and continued on while the Airman was in technical training at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.

Hudson was also found guilty of maltreating eight basic military trainees, making a false official statement and obstruction of justice.

Military judge, Col. Donald Eller, Jr., sentenced Hudson to five months confinement, reduction to the grade of E-2 (Airman) and a bad conduct discharge.

One USAFA sexual assault trial begins and another is dismissed before referral.  Colorado Springs Gazette coverage here and here.

My question about the Lackland case is this–  Was SSgt. Hudson ever charged with rape as her male counterparts were?

  2. Mike "No Man" Navarre says:

SG–I think SSGT Robert Hudson is a man, but no, it was charged as a consensual relationship. Yoyu are thinking of SSGT Allen, here, whose case goes to trial May 1, 2013 (here), and does not involve rape allegations.

Before I send it to Senators McCaskill, Boxer, and Gillibrand, Congresswoman Speier, and Nancy Parrish, would anybody like to sign my petition in support of dismissing Marine SSgt. Jane Doe’s charges by the 3d Aviation Wing’s SPCMCA under Article 60(c)(3)?

  4. Christopher Mathews says:

Has Lt Gen Helms written a letter yet explaining how brave she was for doing her job and how her SJA fully respected her right to, you know, do it?  Because I understand those sorts of letters can really enhance a three-star’s image.

Thanks, No Man.  Since I’m frequently wrong, I prefer to be corrected than to go forth and be wrong.

  6. soonergrunt says:

    Judge Mathews–
Sir, did you take an extra helping of sarcasm for that, or does it come naturally?

  7. Christopher Mathews says:

    Years of cultivation, SG.  Years.

  8. Ama Goste says:

SG, I can personally attest that CM speaks the truth.

    SG/No Man,

The court-martial with the female Lackland instructor involves a sexual relationship with two male trainees, and a friendly relationship with two female trainees.  Isn’t this ‘rape’ according to Congresswoman Speier because trainees cannot consent?

  10. Mike "No Man" Navarre says:

KF-In Speier-land that may be how things are charged.  But that’s not how they’ve charged things in these MTI cases, which was my only point.

Here is an article with a picture of Allen who apparently has raised the issue of UCI.
