Please nominate the stories you think belong on the list, either in the comments or by email to Zack@CAAFlog.com

  1. Lone Bear says:

So many this year!  The two I’ve followed most closely are the Barry case and defense attorney situation at Gitmo.

  2. tinfoil wars says:

    Bowe Bergdahl.
The Hills fallout (reluctance from GAD/Service Courts to follow).
    SC Cert. for Dalmazzi/Ortiz issue.
    CAAF Judge nomination.
    UCI (in sexual assault cases).

  3. Alfonso Decimo says:

Senior Chief Barry v. United States and the de facto elimination of the Convening Authority’s discretion and therefore the ultimate demise of the military justice system itself.

  4. Scott says:

Bergdahl.  By far the biggest main-stream news MJ story of the year – one of the biggest ever.
Barry case (although it looks as if that won’t reach a conclusion in 2017).
Manning (and Loving) commutations (at the very beginning of 2017).

  5. k fischer says:

    1. Bergdahl sentence.
    2. Barry regarding UCI.
    3. Boyce regarding UCI.
    4. BG Baker confined for contempt.
    5. SC Certification of Dalmazzi.
    6. Manning getting out.
    7. CID Hijinks in obtaining cell phones and computer devices, i.e. CAAF affirming in US v. Mitchell/CAAF reversing in Nieto.
    8. Erikson getting hosed.
    9. Ahern and other cases highlighting the need to object early and often.
    10.  JPP references Accuseds’ rights for the first time.

Agree with Shawn.  You’ve heard of training fatigue, call it BeeBee fatigue.

  10. K fischer says:

JBF’s list, while slightly similar to my list, is far more clever and succinct.  Well done, Ma’am or Sir.

  11. ThatGuy says:

There is a referred case against a retired two star that should go to trial in Feb 2018….if not this year, maybe next year’s top 10…..

  12. Scott says:

As others have said, continued fallout from Hills.  Even more so now, in light of Guardado.

  13. Michael Lowrey says:

Lots of great nominations above, but I’d just like to add Reese in for consideration.

  14. k fischer says:

To add to #6 on JBF’s clever and insightful list, US v. Morales is a must read for Army practitioners with cases involving damaging evidence found on a cell phone pursuant to a magistrate’s search authorization.
